What To Do This Spring

Springtime in Boston is a mixed bag, we could get a Nor’easter or we could get sunny and 60. You just never know. However, what you can be sure of is that the city starts to come alive again. Even if we just get a glimmer of sunshine, that is enough to get us going again. Here is a roundup of some of the events and activities you’ll find me participating in this time of year.

#1) A Toast to St. Jude

This is my second year on the Committee for A Toast to St. Jude and what an amazing experience it has been, so fun and so rewarding. Held on May 6th from 8-11:30pm at the Aloft Seaport Hotel in Boston, the event is a benefit to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It is seriously one of my favorite events of the season. It’s a lounge-style reception with hors d’oeuvres, open beer and wine bar, dancing, live entertainment, silent auctions and premier raffles. Early bird ticket sales end tomorrow at midnight, so get them while you can here.

#2) The Boston Ballet – Kylián/Wings of Wax

I was fortunate enough to attend Kylián/Wings of Wax on opening night last week and what an amazing performance by the Boston Ballet. With shows through April 2nd, it is definitely a must see for ballet and modern dance fans. The organization of the show itself is a gem, you essential get 3 for the price of 1. It begins with an ephemeral rendition of a traditional Balanchine ballet with dancers dressed in pastel adornments. You are immediately uplifted with their “springy” motions.

And as we move to the second act, I highly recommend getting up out of your seat during the intermission. While the first act may have been short, get ready for a little bit of a longer intermission than you may be used to. Right when it gets to the point that you start to wonder what is taking so long, the curtains will come up and you will realize it was worth the wait. The entire mood and feeling in the theater changes. The upside down tree gives off such a presence; you are drawn into the story. This was my favorite of the 3 acts.

While the allegory of the Wings of Wax is so magical, that is not to discredit the 3rd part in the trio whatsoever. The “percussive rhythms” created and the overall ultra modern feel of the performance is quit entertaining and is a fun way to end the night.

#3) A Taste Of Ginger

This past Monday I attended another fabulous event that I have to tell you all about so you can attend next year! “A Taste of Ginger” is a foodie event benefiting Joslin Diabetes Center and is held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. A wonderful event for a wonderful cause, many of Boston’s well-known chefs and restaurants come together for a night of tasty food and drinks.

It was a pleasure to meet Jasper White!

With dozens of food stations set up around the atrium of the MFA, guests get the chance to sample some of Boston’s best cuisine. I will definitely be back next year!

#4) Equinox

Spring gala season is a fabulous time of year, but don’t forget that immediately following it is bikini season. So in order to balance out all that gala-going, head to Equinox for a little spin and yoga (or whatever type of exercise floats your boat, they offer something for everyone!). With 5 convenient locations in the Boston area, Equinox is the luxury gym experience that will motivate you to stay fit all year round.

#5) Spring Break

Who says spring break is just for kids? I don’t know about you but after surviving yet another Boston winter, we all deserve a little getaway to brighten our spirits. But instead of Florida or Mexico like back in Freshman year, try Curacao or Paris. Break away this spring like an adult and prep for your trip at Pure Glow Tanning on Newbury Street and look Insta-ready with their organic sunless tanning.

Get ready for those warm weather trips at Pure Glow!

I would choose to go to the ballet! I love live performing arts and music, especially ballet because the dancers are so graceful and beautiful. Since I’m a singer, I get to be a part of a lot of musical performances, but not a lot of dance.

Great list of events. These all sound really nice. I’ll keep them in mind for when I visit Boston again.
This makes me miss Toronto so much since that city always has so many events going on. It’s always good to actually see how our taxes are spent. The city just comes alive when there are huge festivals and things going on right? I haven’t been to the Ballet, but would really love to!

I have only been to Boston once, when I was much younger. But this list of things to do, is totally inspiring me to make another visit to Boston soon. I would love to attend the Ballet, it sounds absolutely fantastic. As does the Taste of Ginger, I am a big foodie, so the event sounds amazing and they are supporting such a wonderful cause. Thanks for sharing all of your tips 🙂
