Just because the first day of Spring is just around the corner, you shouldn’t give up on a winter getaway just yet. Snowbasin and Sun Valley are experiencing some of their best conditions this whole season as we speak. Keep reading to find out why you should head west for a little spring skiing!

The Sun and Snow Pass

Snowbasin in Utah and Sun Valley in Idaho are sister mountains and so they teamed up this year for a new package called the “Sun and Snow Pass”. This pass includes three days at each mountain: Snowbasin in Huntsville, Utah, and Sun Valley in Ketchum, Idaho with no blackout dates. This means that for $399 (for adult tickets) you get to ski six days in some of the world’s best skiing conditions. There are some other benefits as well including 50% off the window ticket rate after three days have been used, 50% off the window ticket rate in the early winter season before using pass days (optional), and 50% off the window ticket rate for hiking and sightseeing tickets in Summer 2021. Snowbasin, Utah

Earlier this Winter we flew out to Snowbasin and Sun Valley for an amazing ski trip! So, let’s start with our time at Snowbasin. Snowbasin is located just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport, and we got there via a direct Delta flight from Boston.

Located near the adorable towns of Huntsville and Ogden, skiers have lots of choices when it comes to lodging during their trip to Snowbasin. We stayed at an amazing little boutique hotel called the Compass Rose Lodge, which was just 10 minutes from the mountain, and it was just the place to get away from it all.

The skiing was unreal on the mountain. With breathtaking terrain, Snowbasin is a great resort for skiers of all levels, we enjoyed powder skiing, fast groomers, and more. And when we needed to take a break the on-mountain dining options were just delectable. The highlight this season has to be the brand new ‘Overlook,’ a panoramic bar featuring views from 8,700 feet above sea level!

Sun Valley, Idaho

After we spent three days at Snowbasin we headed north to Idaho. We woke up early to make the drive North and it was a beautiful 4-hour drive. And when we arrived, a winter wonderland welcomed us to the Sun Valley Lodge! The gentle snow falling, and the gorgeous mountains and pine trees were straight out of a fairytale.

Sun Valley is also known for its amazing terrain and long runs. The mountain receives over 100” of snow per year, so definitely expect powder days. We really enjoyed exploring the mountain in these unparalleled conditions.

The place to stay at Sun Valley is the Sun Valley Lodge. There are 108 updated guestrooms, a 20,000 square foot spa, modern fitness center, yoga studio and a heated outdoor pool. And trust me this pool is so toasty! So much so that we stopped by each afternoon during out January trip! It was like a huge hot tub!

Sun Valley is fortunate enough to have so many amazing chef-driven restaurants nearby, one worth visiting is the Covey in downtown Ketchum. Their fresh pasta and creative dishes were an absolute highlight of the trip, if you are skiing Sun Valley be sure to make a reservation.
