Copenhagen is filled with fine dining and one spot that can’t be missed is the Michelin starred Marchal. Located at the D’Angleterre Hotel in central Copenhagen, Marchal offers top notch service in a beautiful setting.
The atmosphere is the essence of “hygge”; the candlelit tables, all with a view of Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv, make for a cozy way to spend a Danish winter’s evening. From the moment you sit down to the moment you leave you feel welcomed and comfortable.
When it comes time to order, the staff are extremely gracious and knowledgeable. We decided to start with some cocktails and Mousse of Duck Liver with Pepper, Grapefruit & Apricot and Croquettes with Morels, Lardo and Picked Mustard Grains.
The light bites were the perfect way to start off a Michelin starred meal.
Next up was a Caviar Tasting. Served with blinis, sour cream, red onions, chopped egg whites and egg yolk, was a civilized second course. We enjoyed four different varieties of caviar including: White Sturgeon, Baerii, Oscietra and “Gold Selection”.
For the third course we chose to try some seasonal truffle dishes, one with black truffles and one with white. The Bouillon of Black Winter Truffles was a delightful warm soup.
And the White Truffle with Violet Artichoke Pasta was a creamy and satisfying dish as well. And the delicate plating was just delightful.
For the main course we went with the Whole Steamed Turbot, served table side. Not only did we enjoy the perfectly cooked turbot and fresh vegetables, but also a whole topping of more black truffles. Also, the tableside presentation added a bit of drama which was a lot of fun as well!
And the delights didn’t stop there, for dessert we had a fabulous Baked Alaska, which was flambéed right at the table.
Marchal was an amazing way to celebrate our trip to Copenhagen and can’t wait to come back again! For more on Copenhagen read our city guide!
