A Weekend in NYC

New York is a quick trip from Boston making it the perfect place to spend a weekend this summer. Here are a few tips on how to have the best summer weekend in NYC!

How to Get to NYC

From Boston the best way to get to NYC is the Acela. The Acela is a business class train by Amtrak that runs multiple times daily from Boston’s South Station to New York Penn Station. The ride is only 3 hours 45 minutes and since you get to leave from the center of Boston and arrive in the center of NYC, there is no wasted time transferring from the airport into the city, so it is really the fastest way to make the trip. And no airport security wait times either!

Where to Stay for a Weekend in NYC

Since summertime is such a perfect time to explore Central Park and to walk all around the city, the Loews Regency on the Upper East Side is a perfect choice for a luxurious weekend away. We stayed in one of their amazing suites on our last trip to NYC and it was just gorgeous.

We had two balconies, a bedroom, a huge living room, with two separate spaces, 2 bathrooms and a large kitchenette. The modern, chic style made it the perfect home base for the weekend. And waking up to their classic breakfast was just the perfect Sunday morning treat.

What to Do

There is an infinite number of things to do in NYC. On our last weekend in NYC we chose to check out some rooftops and some other cool dining hotspots.

The Lookup – The Lookup is a brand-new rooftop bar in Midtown and it has an unobstructed view of the Empire State Building. Try their creative cocktails and some of their spicy Korean flavored popcorn.

Koi – Down the street from the Lookup, head to Koi for a stylish Asian fusion dinner. The dark, mysterious interior sets the mood and the tasty menu makes for a great night out!

Boulud Sud – We also visited Boulud Sud for dinner. Boulud Sud is Daniel Boulud’s Mediterranean bistro on the Upper West Side in NYC. The interesting cocktail menu and well executed classic dishes make for a delightful dinner on a summer evening.

Wayla – New York has no shortage of trendy brunch spots, but a new one worth checking out is Wayla on the Lower East Side. It is a modern Thai restaurant serving up innovative takes on old classics. And the bar program is superb as well, be sure to try a few of their beautiful cocktails.

And since the weather was so nice, we spent lots of time exploring Central Park, which we haven’t really done in the past. Central Park is huge, so there was lots to explore, but we walked to the Bethesda Fountain and around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. It was just a lovely way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon before hopping back on the Amtrak to Boston.
