Our Tesla Model Y Starter Kit: What to Do After Delivery Day

We get a lot of questions on what you should do when you finally get your Tesla. This is our Tesla Model Y Starter Kit, including all the accessories we recommend you get for your car and what you should do immediately after picking it up.

Remove the Hubcaps

First in our Tesla Model Y Starter Kit is that once you receive your car, you’ll notice the wheels come with plastic ‘aero’ hubcaps on them. One thing we wish we did on our delivery date was to remove the hubcaps immediately. After lots of research, we realized that the hubcaps don’t add that much range to the car. We suggest removing them, especially because over time they can scratch up the alloy wheels that are underneath. The removal is super easy and the only thing you have to do is to pop them off. To accent the new look of the wheels you can add some center caps or powder coat the entire wheels too.

Do Not Install the Provided Front License Plate Mount

Upon delivery, you’ll receive a front License Plate mount, which is secured with double-sided tape. We preferred not using it and purchasing our own. The base of the mount lines up in the center of the grill, and by pulling a switch in the front part, it engages clips that are stabilized behind the bumper, making it very solid.

Tesla Model Y Starter Kit: Install a Screen Protector

One thing you should do immediately, if not on the delivery day, is installing a screen protector on the car’s monitor. We installed a matte Spigen screen protector. It reduces handprints, smudges, and glare while driving. Watch our install video here.

Upgrade Your Floor Mats

Unfortunately, Teslas do not come with rubber floor mats, and you need to purchase them separately. We bought Tasmanian mats that fit all areas of the car, including the front trunk, rear trunk, and the footwells.

Tesla Model Y Starter Kit: Get an EZ Pass Mount

Because we live in Massachusetts, we need to use an EZ Pass quite often. We bought a suction cup mount with a nice black cover, installed it on the window, and now it blends in nicely.

Get a Center Console Organizer

Although the Tesla Model Y center console has a great matte finish, it just has a big pocket in the center to put your items. This is why we purchased an organizer that slides in, offers an extra layer with different compartments and helps us keep everything organized. We ordered this one from Amazon.

Tesla Model Y Starter Kit: Get a Phone Mount

This phone mount from Temai fits seamlessly with the dashboard. To install it all you you do is clip it into the vent area in front of the steering wheel and you just slide your phone in.
