Last Fall I was fortunate enough to visit Richard Branson’s new private island—Moskito. Located in the British Virgin Islands, Moskito is the pinnacle of barefoot luxury. Moskito is 125 acres of paradise landscape overlooking Branson’s famous Necker Island. There are ten estates located on the island and it is now possible to rent out a few of them. Basically, it just became a lot easier to vacation like a billionaire!
Accommodations on Moskito Island
Because Moskito is a private island, there are no hotels, just the estates owned either by private owners or Branson himself. Currently, there are three estates available for vacation rentals. The Branson Estate, Oasis Estate, and the Point Estate. Each has its own flavor, so keep reading to learn more about each one.
The Branson Estate
I bet you can guess who this is named after! The Branson Estate is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to get away from it all. There are a total of 11 bedrooms, perfect for up to 22 guests. And what is nice is that the rooms are spread out into different sections, creating lots of privacy.
There is Headland House, the Mangrove Villas and the Beach Villas, each with lots of its own private amenities. So, you can choose to interact with your other gusts as much or as little as you choose.
The Oasis Estate
The Oasis Estate is party central. Located on the highest point on the island, the Oasis Estate has some spectacular views—360 degrees in fact! So, if you want to have the best views of the surrounding BVIs and you also want to have all your friends close to you this one is for you. The style is very modern, similar to what you might find in Miami or on Malibu Beach.
The Point Estate
Last but not least is my favorite, the Point Estate. Located on the Southwest side of the island, the Point Estate is quite the place to bring your family and friends. While all the views on Moskito are something, the Point overlooks Manchioneel Beach and neighboring Virgin Gorda, and you feel as if you are truly in your own private waterfront mansion. And this for me is something that you cannot replicate unless you are on a private island. There are eight bedrooms, including an eight-bunk children’s room in the main house, and sleeps up to 22 guests.
Where is Moskito Island and how do you get there?
If you have ever visited the BVIs, you know that you are in for more than a direct flight before you actually get to your destination. For Moskito Island you need to fly to Tortola (Beef Island), which from the Northeast is most accessible via a 35-minute flight from San Juan on Tailwind Aviation. Then once you pass customs in Tortola you will hop on a 30-minute boat ride to the island—however, you do not need to worry about this, the Moskito team will pick you up in their boat.
Moskito Island is a beautiful, unique place to soak up some sun and enjoy water sports all in the utmost privacy so that you can focus on enjoying your travel companions. Check out my in-depth review of Moskito Island on Forbes for more info!
