Why You Should Book a Trip to Martha’s Vineyard This Spring

We all think of Martha’s vineyard as a Summer destination. However, locals know that the shoulder seasons of the Spring and the Fall can be some of the best times to visit. So here are a few reasons why you should visit Martha’s Vineyard this Spring.

Why Visit Martha’s Vineyard: No Crowds

The first reason is obvious, smaller crowds. Our local summer hotspots get packed each season, so beat the crowds and visit this Spring instead. Shake off the winter cobwebs by getting outdoors, riding a bike through Edgartown, and perhaps even getting out on the water. If you have spent the whole winter in Boston, it is time to get outside on the Vineyard.

The Harbor View Hotel

The Harbor View Hotel is our favorite hotel on the island, and they are already open for the season! Enjoy an amazing stay in one of their beautifully restored guests’ rooms, dine at the signature restaurant Bettini and just soak up the best view on the island on the veranda overlooking Edgartown Harbor. When we visit, one of our favorite things to do is walk out to the lighthouse and just enjoy the sea breeze—you may need a jacket this time of year, but there is nothing better than closing the laptop on a Friday afternoon and escaping to the Vineyard.

Why Visit Martha’s Vineyard: Plenty is open for the season

Many people fear that there won’t be anything open when they visit a popular “summer” spot in the Spring, however, this is not the case on Martha’s Vineyard. There are so many shops, restaurants, bars, and activities open and available for booking in March, April, and May. And in fact, you can see a nice list of what’s open here https://whatsopenonmv.com.

Enjoy the island like a local

Finally, the last reason to visit Martha’s Vineyard this Spring is that you will really get to enjoy one of Massachusetts’ gems like a local, whether you are or not. When I was growing up, we used to take the ferry over to Martha’s Vineyard in the spring all the time and it was such a joy, walking all the quaint historic streets without the summer crowds, being able to book your favorite restaurants with short notice and just enjoying the scenery when it’s a little quieter than in July or August.
