My first year of owning a Cayenne Turbo was something I will not forget. Black on Black Twin Turbo V8 that could easily pass you on the highway or tow something 7000lbs if needed is a special machine. It was a beautiful Basalt Black Metallic with 21’ wheels loaded with all the bells and whistles you needed.
Then one day I decided I wanted to join 30+ jeeps and take It off-roading. It did GREAT. And it did so on the OEM 21’ wheels wrapped in a 295-section all season tire; it tore through that mud. Center locking differential, LSD rear, plenty of drive modes to crawl through tough terrain, driving was a great adrenaline rush. I had people in disbelief when I pulled up. But shortly after watching the Cayenne tear through the terrain, everyone was asking for rides in the passenger seat. And the number of requests increased significantly after they witnessed me doing launch control into a giant mud bath
I knew from that day this poor SUV was doomed to a life in the mud. I bought this Cayenne to be a daily driver, tow my BRZ or 911 to the track and to commute and now it could still do all those things, it would just look slightly muddy…all the time.
I bought some OEM 19’ Turbo wheels and put some Falken Wildpeak tires on them. This time some friends and I went to some trails in the woods to have some fun. I was hooked, the Cayenne Turbo did even better with a proper wheel and tire set up (of course).
The car community is great, I found new friends in this new hobby within the car scene and started finding trails frequently to play with the Cayenne. I was hanging with some souped-up Jeeps and the Cayenne was keeping up better than I thought it ever would.
As things escalated, I eventually found myself having a shop fabricate a custom front brush bar and I wired up lots of front and top lights. I bought rock sliders and a rear 5th wheel swing arm so I could still operate the rear hatch and still tow. It was all coming together. Since I was not a fan of the look with 19’ Turbo wheels, I bought some strictly offroad use case wheels that I adapted to the Porsche hub. I 3D printed the hub centric caps to align the conversion spacers I picked up and crossed my fingers all my offset wheel sizing math was spot on.
Once everything was shipped, I mounted some new Toyo Open Country A/T III’s on my Black Rhino wheels and took it back out to the trails! The fitment on the Cayenne was perfect, they were much better off road performance than the Wildpeaks and it made everything that much more enjoyable.
I took my stock Cayenne Turbo that had a nice life before me and gave it a serious new life off road. Once you do something like this to an otherwise clean car, you never stop finding mud. Just own it, drive it, break it, fix it, enjoy it. These Cayenne Turbos are excellent off road and I encourage anyone with some extra budget to try it yourself.
