What do you love most about the Mandarin Oriental New York?

The people here are truly outstanding, committed, and work with care. We have amazing views of Central Park and the New York skyline, but it’s the people who deliver the legendary service we are known for who are our true assets.

What is a hidden gem at the hotel?

An almost literal “gem” is our amethyst crystal steam room. It is unique to our spa and was designed to induce mental peace and inspiration by channeling the natural healing powers of an amethyst crystal that serves as the centerpiece of the room. Another hidden gem is our speakeasy called The Gallery. It is a wonderful event space with an old-world design with leather chairs and artworks, perfect for intimate occasions and after-parties.

What is your favorite restaurant or bar nearby?

Our location makes it hard to pick just one favorite as there are many options to choose from all within close proximity to the hotel. Two all-time favorites that you can never go wrong with are Per Se and Masa. They not only have three Michelin stars each, but are conveniently located below the hotel in The Shops at Columbus Circle and accessible through the hotel’s private guest elevators. Another great nearby restaurant is called 53, a brand new Asian contemporary restaurant that’s always fun with a party dining vibe.

What is your favorite thing to do there in the peak season?

Spending the holidays in New York is magical. There are many things to do in New York that I love during this time from watching annual holiday shows like The Nutcracker in Lincoln Center or The Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular in Radio City, visiting the holiday markets, and shopping (and window shopping) to see all the fun and creative window displays down at Fifth Avenue from brands like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Cartier. Of course, all this is best experienced with loved ones and the holidays is the perfect time to reconnect over a great meal or even as simple as a warm cup of hot chocolate in the park.

What is your favorite thing to do there in the off season?

Since we’re in the city that never sleeps, the off season is never truly “off” as the city always seems to be buzzing. On slower days, I enjoy trying new restaurants with friends. There are over 23,000 restaurants in New York City and I’m on a quest to try the very best places one plate at a time.

Anything new and exciting at the Mandarin Oriental New York that travelers should check out?

There are many exciting initiatives in the hotel right now. As we’re on the topic of food, let me start with that. In MO Lounge, we’re introducing new menu items such as my current favorite, the steamed black bass with an Asian-inspired coconut broth. Guests may notice a visual change in the space too as we brought in all new furniture to expand our seating. The we also have a collaboration with Creed fragrances for our afternoon tea where our Executive Pastry Chef used the top notes of their top 5 perfumes to inspire the flavors of our pastries.
