Welcome to ‘Travel Talks’, where the world’s foremost explorers, hospitality experts, and wanderlust aficionados share their stories, tips, and insider perspectives, guiding you through the destinations they know best. Did you miss our last one with the owner of Marble Ridge Winery.
This week we’re talking with Elysia Weiss, the hotel manager of Mandarin Oriental Miami. Elysia has been with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group for over ten years and has past experience with Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and at Marriott. She understands all the in’s and out’s of hospitality and knows what it takes to make a great guest experience.
What do you love most about the Mandarin Oriental Miami?
I absolutely adore this hotel. It brings me so much joy to welcome both new and returning guests to our special oasis on Brickell Key. As soon as you step into the lobby, you’re immediately immersed in a unique experience. The breathtaking water views and our friendly and attentive colleagues truly make it a one-of-a-kind retreat in Miami.
Here, you have the chance to check-in and never want to leave the hotel. You can enjoy a truly unforgettable getaway that includes a blissful spa experience, a delightful dinner al fresco at our award-winning La Mar by Gaston Acurio Peruvian restaurant, vibrant Cuban Jazz on Saturday evenings at MO Bar with its irresistible cocktail selection and incredible sushi rolls. And of course, your stay wouldn’t be complete without a luxurious in-room dining breakfast experience, where you can savor it all while gazing out at the stunning Key Biscayne.
Mandarin Oriental, Miami is not just a hotel—it’s a destination in itself. It’s like an island within an island, surrounded by some of the finest dining, shopping, and leisure activities just steps away.
What is a hidden gem at the hotel?
One of our most prized treasures is our dedicated team of colleagues. We take immense pride in their passion and unwavering commitment to ensuring the utmost satisfaction of every guest that walks through our doors. Their dedication is truly remarkable, and it brings us great joy to see how they go above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences for each and every one of our guests.
What is your favorite restaurant nearby?
Café la Trova offers a true taste of Miami. Whenever someone asks me for a recommendation, I always suggest paying a visit to this amazing spot for an authentic Cuban cuisine experience paired with live music. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Miami while indulging in delicious food and enjoying the lively tunes. Trust me, a visit to Café la Trova is an experience you won’t want to miss.
What is your favorite thing to do there in the peak season?
During peak season in Miami, the weather takes center stage. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore Brickell and the Key on foot and witness stunning sunrises and sunsets. Cycling is also highly recommended, and with the hotel’s bikes, you can conveniently ride from the hotel to South Beach via the Venetian Causeway. The ride itself is an incredible experience, not to mention the vibrant atmosphere you’ll find on South Beach.
What is your favorite thing to do there in the off season?
During the off season, there’s no better way to embrace the refreshing ocean and its offerings than by engaging in various activities. Two of my personal favorites are paddle boarding and snorkeling. These activities allow you to fully immerse yourself in the soothing waters and discover the stunning underwater world. So, make sure to take advantage of the off season and enjoy some unforgettable experiences while paddle boarding or snorkeling.
Anything new and exciting happening at the Mandarin Oriental Miami?
Locals in Miami can’t get enough of the delicious Sunday Brunch at La Mar and the rejuvenating 111Skin facial treatment at the Spa. These cult favorites never disappoint. So, make sure to indulge in these beloved treats and experiences recommended by the locals.
