Last Friday, we had the pleasure of stepping into one of Boston’s most beloved landmarks—the Boston Public Library’s McKim Building—for an evening that combined elegance, history, and an important mission. This year’s “Night in the Stacks” wasn’t just a night to remember; it was a statement of support for a cause that resonates with all who cherish the freedom to read.
The 3rd annual Night in the Stacks was nothing short of spectacular, with over 600 guests filling the library’s historic halls, lending their energy and enthusiasm to support one of Boston’s oldest cultural institutions. Set against the McKim Building’s ornate architecture and surrounded by stacks of treasured books, we joined together for an evening dedicated to championing the library’s mission and raising funds for its critical programs and services. The atmosphere was electric, a perfect blend of historic charm and modern vibes.
With record-breaking success, the event raised an astounding $255,525! These funds will directly support the Boston Public Library’s diverse range of offerings, including early literacy programs, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services, the Books Unbanned initiative, and unforgettable author visits. Each dollar raised will help make the library a place of inclusivity, where everyone has access to the resources they need.
Throughout the evening, attendees mingled, danced, and enjoyed an ambiance that only the BPL can provide—an enchanting fusion of intellectual legacy and community spirit. Guests strolled through the library’s grand rooms, savoring a setting that has witnessed countless Boston stories over the years. It was inspiring to see so many people united for such a meaningful purpose.
If you missed this year’s event, don’t worry—there’s always next year! The Boston Public Library Fund has already announced the date for the next Night in the Stacks, set for Friday, October 31, 2025 (sounds like a fun Halloween to me!). Mark your calendars, as tickets will go on sale in mid-July.
For those looking to play an active role in shaping this iconic event, the Emerging Leaders Board is currently seeking new members for 2025. Becoming part of the board means being involved in planning community-building events, advocating for library initiatives, and driving fundraising efforts. If you’re passionate about making a difference in the BPL community, this is your opportunity to lead, connect, and support a library that’s truly free for all.
We’re proud to stand with a community that values the power of literature, knowledge, and accessibility, and we look forward to gathering again next year to celebrate our shared commitment to the Boston Public Library.
