Welcome to ‘Voices,’ where we sit down with the world’s top hoteliers, explorers, and luxury lifestyle insiders to uncover what’s new, next, and not to be missed in hospitality. Last time, we took you inside the Four Seasons Chicago.
This week, we’re heading to the heart of Spain to explore the storied streets of Madrid—a city of art, energy, and endless tapas. We sat down with Alejandro Bernabé, Regional Vice President and General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, to get his take on where to eat, what to see, and how to make the most of every moment in this captivating capital.

What makes your city special to you, and how would you describe its unique energy?
The energy of the people. Madrid feels like a small town wrapped inside a major European capital, and that makes it very unique.
If someone only had 24 hours there, what are the must-do experiences?

24 hours isn’t nearly enough—but if that’s all you’ve got, be sure to:
- Visit a museum: Top picks include The Thyssen-Bornemisza, The Prado, and The Reina Sofia.
- Book a meal at Dani Brasserie on our seventh-floor terrace.
- Wander the streets: Madrid is incredibly walkable, with hidden gems in every neighborhood.
What are some hidden gems—restaurants, shops, or activities—that even frequent visitors might not know about?
Madrid still has the soul of a town. Many neighborhoods have traditional markets where locals shop for groceries and also enjoy casual bites at vibrant food stalls.
Don’t miss artisan shops that have been around for over 100 years—think handmade Spanish fans, guitars, and sweets from La Pajarita.
Your city has an incredible food scene. Beyond the Four Seasons Madrid, where do you personally love to dine?

I love exploring our local markets. Mercado de San Miguel is the most famous, but every neighborhood has its own version that’s more authentic.
Chueca and Malasaña are filled with charming boutiques and cafés.
At the hotel, Dani Brasserie offers amazing views and cuisine at every meal, while Isa—our Asian-inspired bar and restaurant—features award-winning cocktails in a chic setting.
What’s one local tradition or cultural experience that every visitor should take part in?

Flamenco! Visit Tablao de la Moreira for an unforgettable evening of live dance and authentic Spanish cuisine.
Also, Madrid’s museums—especially the “big three”—are essential to understanding the city’s artistic legacy.
What’s your favorite time of year in the city, and why? Any seasonal events or festivals travelers should plan around?
Each season brings its own charm:
- Spring: Perfect for strolling through Retiro Park.
- Fall: Ideal weather for combining shopping, dining, and cultural experiences.
- Winter: The city comes alive with Christmas lights. Our tree has become a beloved Instagram spot!
- Summer: Though it’s warm, long daylight hours and AC everywhere make exploring easy.
Madrid is also a city of festivals—there’s a local celebration happening almost every month.
What’s the best way to explore—on foot, by bike, by boat, or another way?
Without question—on foot. Madrid is incredibly safe and walkable, and you’ll discover hidden shops, restaurants, and architecture around every corner. That said, public transportation is also very reliable if you need to venture further out.
What’s the one must-do at the Four Seasons Madrid?
Start your day with breakfast on the rooftop terrace—a serene escape above the city center. Then relax at our spa and pool, followed by one of our signature treatments.
In the evening, head to Isa for cocktails and dinner to close out your day in style.
How does the Four Seasons Madrid reflect the character of the city and help guests feel immersed in the destination?
Our location in the heart of Madrid makes it easy to feel immersed in the city’s spirit. And our team is passionate about offering personalized experiences—from using local products to curating off-the-beaten-path cultural adventures.
Anything new and exciting happening at your hotel this year?
Yes! September 2025 marks our 5th anniversary. We opened during the pandemic, which made for a challenging but meaningful start. We’re thrilled to be planning something special to celebrate this major milestone.
