Welcome to Voices, where we sit down with the world’s top hoteliers, explorers, and luxury lifestyle insiders to uncover what’s new, next, and not to be missed in hospitality and travel. Last time, Selina Gull share her top tips for visiting Zermatt, home of the famed Matterhorn.
This week, we’re trading snow capped mountains for the jazz filled streets of New Orleans, a city that simmers with soul. We caught up with Megan Lewis, Director of Food & Beverage at the Four Seasons New Orleans, to talk about the city’s iconic culinary scene, how the hotel is raising the bar on Southern hospitality, and the dishes that every visitor must try.

What do you love most about New Orleans, and how would you describe the city’s unique energy?
There’s truly no place like New Orleans. The energy here is electric, soulful, and endlessly welcoming. It’s a city that celebrates life at every turn—from the brass bands on street corners to the impromptu parades. It’s joyful, expressive, and completely contagious.
What is your favorite experience at Four Seasons New Orleans?
The Spa is a luxurious escape from the city’s high energy. It’s like hitting pause, allowing yourself time to recharge and reflect on your adventures.
What are your favorite dishes to order at the Four Seasons New Orleans onsite restaurants?
At Miss River, the Blackened Snapper is a must—it’s bold, flavorful, and rooted in Louisiana tradition. At Chemin à la Mer, I love the Duck Confit; it’s rich and refined, with a beautiful balance of textures. And at Chandelier Bar, the Fried Chicken Sandwich absolutely hits the spot.

New Orleans has an incredible food scene. Beyond the hotel’s restaurants, where do you love to dine?
Sofia is a favorite of mine for their freshly made pastas and vegetarian dishes. I normally grab a seat at the bar to chat with other locals from the neighborhood.
If someone only had 24 hours in New Orleans, what are two things they must check out?
Start with City Park—it’s one of the most beautiful urban green spaces in the country. Wander through the New Orleans Museum of Art, the botanical gardens, and grab beignets at Café du Monde by the lagoon. Then, head to the French Quarter for quintessential New Orleans. Don’t miss Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, a favorite local dive, for a classic frozen “purple drink” and a bit of lore.
What are some hidden gems in New Orleans—even frequent visitors might not know about?
Kiefe & Co. is a classic wine and spirits shop with serious old-school charm. Bar Métier is a chic little cocktail bar tucked away in the CBD, and Bacchanal in the Bywater is the kind of neighborhood spot you hope to stumble upon.
What is your favorite time of year in New Orleans, and why?
Spring in New Orleans is magic. Jasmine blooms in the air, the weather is perfect, and the city is alive with music and festivals. French Quarter Fest is one of my favorites—it’s free, full of local flavor, and gives you a little taste of everything that makes New Orleans so special. And of course, it’s peak crawfish season!
What’s the best way to explore the city?
By bike. It’s the best way to slow down, take it all in, and discover neighborhoods you might otherwise miss.
How does Four Seasons New Orleans reflect the character of the city and help guests feel immersed in the destination?
The property is filled with subtle nods to the city—from the historic architecture to the compass in the lobby floor. Our culinary offerings tell the story of Louisiana’s rich food culture, and the music at Chandelier Bar brings the spirit of New Orleans to life nightly. You’ll also find locally inspired artwork and an unmistakable sense of place woven throughout every detail.
Anything new and exciting happening at the hotel this year?
This summer, we’re rolling out a vibrant programming series—from live music and cocktail classes at Chandelier Bar to family-friendly fun at the pool. There’s always something new to discover here, no matter how many times you’ve visited.
