Welcome to Voices, where we sit down with the world’s top hoteliers, explorers, and luxury lifestyle insiders to uncover what’s new, next, and not to be missed in hospitality. Last time, we explored Spain’s vibrant capital with the GM of Four Seasons Hotel Madrid—did you catch the art-filled suite recommendations?
This week, we’re heading to Egypt to explore a city that lives in layers. From ancient pyramids to contemporary art galleries, Cairo pulses with energy, contrast, and color. We spoke with the Yves Giacometti, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, overseeing the brand’s presence in Egypt. A Paris native with a law degree and hospitality training, he’s held leadership roles across four continents since joining Four Seasons in 1985. He share everything at the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza to discover and how to make the most of a visit—whether you’re there for 24 hours or a week.

What makes your city special to you, and how would you describe its unique energy?
Cairo is a city that lives in layers—each one telling a story from thousands of years ago to today. What makes it so special is the contrast: ancient wonders standing proudly beside a buzzing modern metropolis. There’s a rhythm to the city that’s both captivating and mesmerizing—always moving, always evolving. The energy here is magnetic; it pulls you in and stays with you long after you’ve left.
If someone only had 24 hours there, what are the must-do experiences?

Start early with a private visit—including a sunrise horse ride—to the Pyramids of Giza. Seeing them in the quiet of the morning is an unforgettable experience. Then explore the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum, the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. Enjoy a sunset felucca journey as you sail down the Nile, then spend the evening wandering the narrow alleyways of the 600-year-old Khan El Khalili Bazaar and taking in the architecture of Downtown Cairo. Wrap up the day with dinner overlooking the river at Zitouni at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza. With its floor-to-ceiling windows and rich Egyptian cuisine, it’s the perfect spot to soak in the city’s skyline.
What are some hidden gems—restaurants, shops, or activities—that even frequent visitors might not know about?
Zamalek is full of quiet surprises—boutique galleries like Zamalek Art Gallery showcase contemporary Egyptian art, while the neighborhood’s tree-lined streets are dotted with independent bookstores and artisan shops that offer a slower, more personal side of Cairo. For something more unexpected, the Manial Palace Museum is a lesser-known treasure, blending Islamic, Ottoman, and Mamluk styles in one of the city’s most unique architectural spaces. Downtown Cairo, with its tucked-away cafés and patisseries, resembles a living architectural museum with beautiful neoclassical buildings and orientalist details—truly a visual cityscape of layered history.
Your city has an incredible food scene. Beyond Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza, where do you personally love to dine? And how about at the hotel too?
Cairo’s culinary scene is incredibly diverse. I enjoy dining at Zooba for elevated Egyptian street food, and Khufu’s for a modern Egyptian twist with views of the ancient pyramids. At the hotel, Riviera is a favorite—it’s vibrant, flavorful, and true to its Italian coastal roots. I also love Zitouni for its authentic Egyptian dishes—freshly baked baladi bread, Egyptian delicacies, and our renowned ma’moul dessert. For more diverse cuisines, 8 restaurant brings the best of authentic Chinese dining to life with some of the most impeccable service in the city.
What’s one local tradition or cultural experience that every visitor should take part in?
Experiencing Ramadan in Cairo is truly special. The city transforms—there’s a heightened sense of community, and the evenings come alive with lights, music, and gatherings. Whether you’re joining an Iftar or Sohour meal or simply walking the streets, it’s a cultural moment that leaves an everlasting impression.
What’s your favorite time of year in the city, and why? Any seasonal events or festivals travelers should plan around?
Autumn in Cairo—October and November—is my favorite. The weather is ideal, the Nile breeze is cool, and the city feels refreshed after the summer heat. There are many local exhibitions, art fairs, and city events during that time. The Cairo International Film Festival, Art D’Égypte, and Cairo Design Week also take place then, bringing a creative energy and global crowd that adds another layer to the city’s cultural scene.
What’s the best way to explore—on foot, by bike, by boat, or another way?
The best way to discover Cairo is to mix it up. A morning walk through Islamic Cairo offers a sensory journey through history, while a felucca ride on the Nile gives you space to breathe and take in the city from a different perspective. Balancing moments of movement with moments of stillness is key.
What’s the one must-do at Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza?

An ancient-inspired treatment at the Spa followed by a relaxing swim in our outdoor pool is the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration. A sunset cocktail at The Bar is also a must—the view of the river and the city lights coming alive is something I never tire of. For something extra special, enjoy a dinner under the stars from the private terrace of your room with sweeping views of the Nile and Cairo’s skyline.
