Sir Richard Branson's Chalet in the Swiss Alps for Ultra-Wealthy

Review of The Lodge, Verbier

There are luxury hotels, and then there are places that completely reset your expectations of what hospitality can feel like. The Lodge in Verbier falls firmly into the latter. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this wasn’t meant to feel like a hotel stay at all—it was designed to feel like stepping into someone’s impeccable mountain home. And not just anyone’s home, but one owned by Richard Branson, which explains the subtle blend of adventure effortless luxury that defines the experience.

Owned by Virgin Limited Edition, The Lodge is the only Swiss property in Sir Richard’s portfolio, and it feels deeply personal. With just nine bedrooms and suites, the chalet accommodates up to 18 guests, making it ideal for families, close-knit friend groups, or anyone who values privacy as the ultimate luxury.

What struck me immediately was how livable the space is—plush sofas, layered textures, soft lighting, and big windows that frame the Alps so beautifully you almost forget to check the weather report.

After a full day on the slopes, The Lodge truly comes alive. I spent afternoons moving between the indoor pool, the outdoor hot tub as snow fell around me, and the quiet relaxation spaces designed for total decompression. There’s also a cold plunge—recently added at Sir Richard’s request—which quickly became part of my routine. And when my legs finally needed more serious attention, the in-house masseuse delivered one of the best post-ski massages I’ve ever had.

Verbier’s reputation as a magnet for elite skiers is well earned. Sitting at the heart of the legendary Four Valleys, the terrain is vast, varied, and thrilling. What made the experience seamless, though, was the Lodge’s team. Lift passes, equipment rentals, guides, lessons—everything was arranged quietly in the background. I never once felt like I was “organizing” a ski trip; I was simply skiing.

Dinner at The Lodge feels more like dining at a friend’s home, if that friend happened to employ exceptional private chefs. Menus are tailored to your preferences, paired with excellent wines, and served in a way that feels indulgent without ever being stiff.

What sets The Lodge apart—and why it feels so aligned with The JQ List—is its lack of pretension. This is ultra-luxury without performance. Nothing feels flashy.

For travelers who value discretion, impeccable service, and experiences that are genuinely personal, The Lodge is one of the most exceptional alpine stays in Switzerland.
