Some books are written in a study. This one was written in archives, map rooms and on long walks through the city it describes. So when it came time to introduce Historic Maps of Boston: A History of America’s Walking City in Rare Maps, there was only one place to do it: on the water, at Boston Harbor Hotel, with the harbor that shaped those maps just outside the windows.
We hosted an intimate VIP preview evening for friends, family, media and the people who have supported this project from the first page. Below is a look back at the night, along with the full gallery from our photographer. If you were there, scroll down to find and download your photos.
About Historic Maps of Boston

Historic Maps of Boston, published by Reedy Press, traces the story of America’s walking city through its rare maps: how a small peninsula was charted, filled, reshaped and reimagined over centuries. It is a book for anyone who has ever stood on a Boston street and wondered what was there before. Or for anyone who just loves how beautiful our city is!
The Evening
Guests arrived to a waterfront room at Boston Harbor Hotel and were welcomed by two hostesses in full eighteenth-century dress, powdered wigs and all, each carrying a copy of the book. It set the tone: history, but with a sense of occasion.

Casazar Tequila, our cocktail sponsor, kept the bar busy all evening, and DJ Timmy Drums carried the room from the first arrivals to the last toast. Mostly, though, the night belonged to the guests, a room full of people who have championed this book and the work behind it. I am still taking it all in!!

The evening was so much fun, celebrating with everyone, with amazing views and food and drinks, what more could I ask for! Thank you to everyone who joined us!!!
