Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but don’t just do the old flowers and card routine. Make this year special. Treat yourselves to a staycation right here in Boston. Here are my 5 tips for how to win Valentine’s Day this year!

1) Get a hotel

If you really want to get into the “staycation” spirit, you need to check into a hotel. For this Valentine’s Day I recommend the Colonnade in the Back Bay. With some amazing special packages being offered right now, the time has never been better to check out this gorgeous hotel. With the “Frosty Fridays” package you “pay the temperature” for Friday night and a special rate for Saturday night AND you get a choice of trolley tour tickets or ice skating tickets. (So if you really want to exceed expectations this year, turn Valentine’s Day into a weekend long affair and surprise your sweetie with a weekend getaway tomorrow!)

And with their “P.S I Love You” package you and your sweetheart will get complimentary champagne and strawberries upon arrival (this one is perfect for checking in ON the 14th!).

The hot chocolate bar in the lobby is defs a highlight!

The Colonnade is a one of those hotels that you like because of its location—close to the Pru, Newbury Street and the South End—but love because of its perks: complimentary use of the house chauffeur (Luxury Audi SUV), rooftop pool (summer only!), hot chocolate bar (winter only!), the amazing on property restaurant Brasserie Jo, and so many others! So make this Valentine’s Day special and head to the Colonnade!

2) Take a long walk

Even those of us who were born and raised in Boston don’t always appreciate what a beautiful city we live in. So take this Valentine’s Day to enjoy a nice long walk around as a couple. Don’t plan your route, just go wherever the wind takes you!

Maybe you’ll get lucky and have a little snow to play in too!

3) Plan a romantic meal

The French are the best at 2 things, food and romance. So what better choice is there for your Valentine’s Day dinner date than Brasserie Jo? Located inside the Colonnade, Brasserie Jo is the neighborhood French restaurant you need in your life. We loved the old classics, which were executed to perfection! Must tries are the steak tartare and the crispy brussels sprouts!

4) Let bae choose their own gift

For many, choosing the perfect gift can be stressful. So this year go a different route and let your sweetheart pick their own gift, and no I don’t mean ask them what they want, go shopping together!

Shopping is fun to do together and trust me guys it’s also way easier to let bae pick this stuff out for herself!

On that long relaxing walk that you will end up taking down Newbury Street, go shopping together and treat yourselves to a few goodies!

5) Go to the spa

The ultimate way to luxuriate is with a spa day. Surprise your better half with a spa treatment, either for themselves or for the both of you. Another one of my favorite Back Bay spots, G2O Spa & Salon, has several wonderful couple’s packages. You need to try the Bali Paradise Treatment and any their couple’s massage. And did I mention G2O is right down the street from the Colonnade?

G2O also has a fab lounge to relax in between treatments!

Totally win Valentine’s Day this year and experience some of the wonderful things Boston has to offer, so treat yourselves to a fab staycation this February!
