New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate. And Vienna is a city that knows how to ring in the new year in style. With plenty of galas and balls to go around, Vienna is a black tie NYE destination. Read on to see how we spent our New Years weekend in the City of Dreams.
Where to Stay
The days leading up to New Year’s Eve can be extremely busy, making it difficult to find a decent hotel. HotelTonight removes all of this stress of last minute booking, providing chic hotels at incredible rates! The app even has a new “100 day booking feature”, where you can book up to a 100 days in advance. When looking at the few remaining hotels available in Vienna a couple weeks before NYE, it seemed like the whole city was going to be booked. Using our HotelTonight app, we found an amazing room at the trendy Ruby Marie Hotel.
Located in the hip and artsy neighborhood of Neubau, the Ruby Marie is the funky euro boutique hotel you always hope you stumble across. With a stylish take on the musical influence of the city, there are guitars and amps scattered all over the place (with signs that actually read ‘take me (but ask permission first)’. Not to mention the hotel has a great hipster coffee house vibe, with bright, airy and modern room and an extremely friendly and helpful staff.
The restaurant, where the breakfast is served in the mornings, really takes on that buzzy coffee shop ambiance, and it’s just great!
I’m so glad that we found the Ruby Marie, with the help of HotelTonight. A hotel that wasn’t even on my radar, ended up being a fun, convenient spot to call home for our time in Vienna. Oh and it is just around the corner from 2 U-Bahn (subway stops), which makes it a breeze to get anywhere else in the city. The Vienna public transportation is phenomenal by the way! We took it everywhere!
New Years Eve
Vienna, similar to many major cities, offers so many different NYE experiences that you could spend a lifetime exploring them all! That being said, we flew all the way to Austria for a traditional Viennese ball, the Hofburg Silvester Ball. Hosted at the Imperial Palace on New Year’s Eve, it was truly a magical event!
With so many rooms to explore, it was certainly a special evening. From the entrance performance on the grand staircase to the live orchestra in the grand room, it was a night to remember.
The countdown and streamers were the perfect way to ring in 2018 at midnight!
The Viennese are very serious when it comes to ball attire, this means black tie. In order to get suited up for this, I enlisted the help of my friends at Best Dressed, located right here in Boston.
With so many beautiful designer gowns to choose from, I knew I was in good hands. And as soon as I tried on this gorgeous midnight blue dress from J.S Boutique, I knew it was the one.
Renting formal gowns just makes so much sense for anyone, who like me, is always running to different events and wants a unique designer look each time. Located right on East Broadway in Southie, Best Dressed is the place to stop for your next formal event.
Flying There
Traveling to Europe from Boston has never been easier. Our go-to gateway to Europe is the Boston to London flight on British Airways. From London, we connect to whatever city we wish. The entire experience on British Airways is top notch, their new and improved Boston lounge, the service on the plane, and the convenience of the flight schedules makes BA our first choice when it comes to getting to Europe fast! Oh and by the way, all flights from Boston now feature premium quality linens and amenities from The White Company in Business Class, and I have to say they are a nice addition to a transatlantic flight!
