Ireland is a dreamy destination with rolling hills, lovely people and ancient castle dotting the countryside. I recently took a trip through the Irish countryside with my mom and we instantly fell in love with the Emerald Isle! Let’s explore Barberstown Castle in Ireland.
As I’m sure many of you know, I just posted an article about Castle Durrow, where we stayed for two days during this trip. A visit to Castle Durrow is worth the trip to Ireland all on its own, so make sure you check out that blog post as well!

How to Get to Barberstown Castle in Ireland
Getting to Ireland is so easy from New England, there are many direct routes from both Boston and Providence. And this time around we took the Norwegian direct route to Dublin from Providence and it was a breeze! If you haven’t ever flown from TF Green, I recommend checking out the routes from there and you might be surprised that there are some that are even more convenient that from Logan! Once we arrived in Dublin, we hopped in a rental car and started driving out of the city towards the countryside. Our first stop was Castle Durrow, which you can read all about here.
Our next stop was Barberstown Castle! Let’s check it out!
Barberstown Castle
Located just about 30 minutes outside of Dublin, Barberstown Castle is another stately country home that has been converted to a hotel. When you arrive there is an impressive car turnaround and lovely landscaping.
When you enter, the hotel is both charming and modern. And the rooms are spacious and bright! While we only stayed for one night, we know that this would be a great hub if you had a whole week to explore the area! And the grounds are just beautiful! There are many paths to take on a pre-dinner stroll and to just unwind after a day of exploring!
For dinner you have to go to the main restaurant, it’s quaint, cozy and classic. The dishes are fresh takes on Irish classics. Serving up only locally sourced beef and produce, the restaurant is worth checking out. We tried so many fabulous dishes!
In the morning you have a few options for breakfast, either in the main restaurant or in the “castle” if you are lucky to be there when it is open. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to check out the castle and were able to have our tea and toast like royalty!
What to Do Near Barberstown Castle
Only 5 minutes down the road from Barberstown, there is a farm that has all of the countryside fun you could ask for! Clay pigeon shooting, horseback riding and more! We went for an hour-long trail ride and it was the best horseback riding experience that either of us has had in a while!
Abbeyfield Farm is run by a husband and wife team and the passion and love really comes through in the service. We arrived at 9:45am for a 10am appointment and we were greeted and shown to pick out our helmets. And then we were brought to our horses, who were saddled up and ready for us. We hopped on and off we went, with a great group of other horse enthusiasts for a stroll through their trails and then onto their fields for a little jog. We had a blast! It was certainly an invigorating start to the morning!
Michelin Stars in Dublin – Dining at L’Ecrivain
After some more exploring in the countryside, we drove back into Dublin for the last night of our trip and treated ourselves to a special dinner at L’Ecrivain. Michelin starred and located right in the center of Dublin, L’Ecrivain is an all-around amazing dining destination. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave you are well-taken care of with the utmost of service. And each dish impresses more than the last. Fresh, simple ingredients put together in a sophisticated way and elegant plating make for a world class meal. And the enthusiasm of the staff shows through service. Pro tip: go for the wine parings, they are exquisite!
Our meal was the perfect way to celebrate our last night in Ireland!
IRELANDS BLUE BOOK
Irelands Blue Book is a collection of impeccable country estates, hotels and restaurants, spread all throughout Ireland and Barberstown Castle and L’Ecrivain are both some of their properties. We were absolutely impressed by both the uniqueness and the level of luxury they offered.
