Vermont is quaint, beautiful and remote. Yet, all of that is only 3 hours from Boston. Here are a few reasons why you should head up north before winter is over to ski at Sugarbush.
1) Sugarbush is Family Friendly
Sugarbush is extremely family friendly. Everything from the lodging to dining options were made with the ski family in mind. You can put your kids in ski school when they are tots and sooner than you know it they will be zooming past with a whole trail of other “Sugar Bears” behind them. And the on-mountain lodge, Claybrook, which is very much ski in ski out, has 1, 2- and 3-bedroom suites, all with full kitchens.
2) The Mountain is Made for Skiers
Many say that people who go to Sugarbush, go there for a reason. Oftentimes being that they really like to ski and that they want varied, challenging, fun terrain. There are resorts that are closer to Boston, so if you make up to Sugarbush you are there because you want to be. It is both a full-service resort, complete with ski and boot valet, but it is also very much a “skier’s mountain”, there are challenging double blacks, plenty of gladed trails and off-piste areas as well as side country to explore should you dare!
3) Candlelit Dining at Allyn’s Lodge
Allyn’s Lodge is the mid-mountain warming hut and lodge on Lincoln Peak. During the day you can rest there and grab a hot cocoa and warm your hands by the fireplace. And on select nights you can enjoy a candlelit dinner up there with your friends and family. After a 3-course chef’s menu, you get to ski down a freshly groomed Spring Fling under the moonlight. I recommend turning your headlamp off so you can let your eyes adjust and just enjoy the smooth run.
4) American Style Après at Sugarbush
Sugarbush has the classic American-style après scene, live music, pub food and local craft beers. There are several spots to unwind with your friends after a day on the slopes. Castlerock Pub is right across from Claybrook, so if you are staying on the mountain, you can just drop your gear at the ski valet and head over for a few libations.
5) Vermont Beauty
The main reason why we love Sugarbush is that it has that cozy, Vermont atmosphere, that people travel from all over the world to experience–the nature, the chalet style homes, the farm-to-table dining and friendly people. Vermont is something special in the winter and Sugarbush is a great place to take that all in!
