The main reason we love to travel is to experience cultures different from our own. And in Southeast Asia there are so many unique cultures to learn about and see firsthand, so this is the #1 reason you should all plan a trip to this part of the world as soon as you can! Since the initial flight over to Asia is so long, we recommend spending a few weeks to visit a few different destinations. On our recent trip we started in Cambodia, then went to Thailand and then flew all the way down to Bali in Indonesia. Each culture was so unique, and it was interesting to compare and contrast our experiences one week to the next.
2) Visit Southeast Asia for the amazing food
If you are a foodie, Southeast Asia should be on your list! From spicy curries, fresh fruit and amazing soups, there are countless flavors and smells that you can only experience in this part of the world. For example, in Koh Samui we had some of the spiciest curries we’ve ever had and in Bali we had the best smoothie bowls we’ve ever tasted. Waking up to fresh dragon fruit and mango, snacking on perfect noodles for lunch and dining on modern classics for dinner is the foodie dream and it’s all possible in Southeast Asia!
Everything is done with such care at each restaurant you’ll visit, whether it’s a small food stall in a market or a Michelin starred restaurant, you are sure to eat well on a trip to Southeast Asia!
3) Sunrises and sunsets in Southeast Asia are beautiful
There is something so special about a sunrise or sunset over the South Pacific Ocean. They are truly something you have to see to believe. This sunrise at the Ritz Carlton Koh Samui was just unbelievable!
So when you visit, make sure to set your alarm so you can wake up early for sunrises and plan your evenings so you don’t miss sunsets! In Cambodia you have to head up high to see the sunset, so visit the Rosewood for that perfect 360-degree view.
4) The Southeast Asian architecture
The history and heritage of this corner of the world is awe inspiring and for visitors we can get a glimpse into it through the architecture of the temples and palaces. In Southeast Asia there is no shortage of ornate, beautiful and photo-worthy locations. Touring Angkor Wat is a photographer’s dream.
Every angle is a look into thousands of years of history. We experienced a sunny day, a rainy day and a cloudy day, on our visit to Angkor and each one gave us a whole new vision of the ancient city.
5) Adventure
If you have a serious case of wanderlust and just have the urge to go out an explore head to Southeast Asia. There are so many different types of adventures you can have here; it is one place in the world where you can truly live out your dreams from your wildest imagination. Ride a mop head to a temple, take a long tail boat to a floating market, chase waterfalls, hike to the top of a mountain above the rainforest canopy, just go for it. Southeast Asia has so much to offer, put it on your list now!
