We love sharing our whole Tesla journey with you all on YouTube, and today I am sharing how long we had to wait before we received a delivery date for our Tesla Model Y. Our Tesla Model Y Timeline
The general timeline of the delivery was as follows. On March 12th we placed the order for our Tesla, then on March 13th, we had a VIN assigned. Then March 13th to 20th was our preparation phase, figuring out how we would charge our car, preparing our checklist for the delivery date, ordering our accessories, and getting our old car ready to trade-in. And after a wait time of about 15 days, we received delivery of our brand-new Tesla Model Y on March 27th. Unfortunately, this is not common, as wait times are typically several weeks or months.
How We Got Our VIN For Our Model Y
I was shocked that we received a VIN the very next day after we placed the order. Due to the wait time mentioned on the ordering page, we thought that it would take a few weeks to hear from Tesla, but when I checked my Tesla account for any necessary steps that we had to take, we saw that a VIN had already been assigned to us that very next day.
Why the Model Y is a Top Priority for Tesla
With the launch of the Model 3 a few years ago and last year with Model Y, Tesla has been shown that they are focusing on mass-market vehicles. Even during the COVID pandemic last year, Tesla produced over 450,000 Model 3/Ys and only about 54,000 Model S/X. So the focus is clearly on the Model Ys and 3s!
Tesla Wait Time: Don’t wait to order!
We received a VIN after a day of ordering our Tesla, but unfortunately, that is not the case for the rest of the year—the wait times are much longer. So if you want a Tesla Model Y, place your order as soon as possible.
How did we schedule the delivery date?
We received a text from Tesla, asking us to request a delivery date. We clicked the link they sent us and chose between a variety of dates and times. Our main tip here is to choose a day where you won’t be rushed so you have plenty of time to inspect the car.
When should you order a Tesla?
The big question is, “When should I order my first Tesla?”, and honestly the answer is “When you are ready for it”. We had to wait a bit because we wanted to receive our Model Y with the updated features that came out in Q1 of this year. But if you think you want a Tesla, the best bet is to order it as soon as possible because they are in high demand and there are currently long wait times so hop onto Tesla.com and place that order.
