Provincetown is only a 90-minute ferry ride away from Boston, but feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. We recently took a quick trip out to this part of Cape Cod and had so much fun! Keep reading for all our tips and tricks on how to spend 36 hours in Provincetown!
Getting There
Getting to Provincetown is a breeze—literally! The best way to get there from downtown Boston is the Boston Harbor Cruises ferry, which is 90-minutes door to door and is a pleasant ride across Cape Cod Bay, so you get to enjoy some gorgeous views the whole ride! There is also WIFI on board so you can get some work down while you try to unwind for your getaway.
Where to Stay in Provincetown
Provincetown has lots of cute boutique hotels, but you all know that we are a fan of Lark Hotels so we decided to stay at the AWOL. The AWOL is a newer addition to Lark and has been on our list for a while.
The AWOL Hotel is located on the west end of Provincetown overlooking the moors, really making it feel as if you are away from it all! And just like all other Lark Hotels, they offer a complimentary breakfast, have a really fun vibe, cool décor and lots of great outdoor space—oh and did I mention they have a pool??? Definitely check out the AWOL if you want a fun, relaxing, scenic place to stay in PTown.
What to Do in Provincetown
There is so much to do in Provincetown and nearby elsewhere on Cape Cod. There are so many beaches, hiking, kayaking and other outdoor activities nearby, you will never be bored. However, one unique activity that we tried on this trip was Art’s Dune Tours. Art’s Dune Tours brings guests out onto the Provincetown dunes of the Cape Cod National Seashore to enjoy some pretty amazing views. You’ll drive through the Peaked Hill Bars Historic District sand dunes, catching sight of Pilgrim Lake nestled among the dunes and the famous artists’ dune shacks.
And after we checked out the dunes, we spent a lot of time meandering through downtown admiring the shops, galleries and beautiful Cape Cod style homes overlooking the water. Downtown Ptown is a great place to grab an ice cream cone and snap a few pictures and to just enjoy classic Cape Cod.
Where to Eat
There are so many amazing restaurants, bars and cafes in Provincetown and we checked out quite a few of them.
The Canteen—We started at the Canteen for lunch. The Canteen is this amazing beach shack right in downtown. They served everything from lobster rolls to poke bowls and we went for some poke bowls and frose to enjoy at our table with our toes in the sand.
JOE Coffee—Then later that afternoon we stopped by JOE Coffee for a nice iced coffee and iced tea to cool off after all our exploring. This is really a great find if you love coffee, highly recommend.
Tin Pan Alley—And for dinner we went to the Tin Pan Alley for a wonderful alfresco dinner on the water! Of course, we had to get some Cape Cod staples – a lobster roll, clam chowder and some fish and chips! It was the perfect way to wrap up a lovely day in Provincetown and really get in the mood for summer in New England.
