The Spa Edit: Fall Spa Getaways Worth Traveling For

Summer is for the beach, but fall is for the spa. After months of sun, salt water and travel, skin and schedules both need a reset, and the cooler weather makes a long afternoon in a robe feel completely right. Fall spa getaways are also some of the best value in travel: the crowds are gone, the scenery is at its peak and you can actually book the treatment you want.

These are the spas I think are worth traveling for this season, from the Berkshires to the Italian Riviera.

Why Fall Spa Getaways Make Sense

  • Your skin needs it. After summer, a hydrating facial or a gentle body scrub is the most useful treatment you can book.
  • The setting is better. A massage after a foliage hike or a walk along a quiet coast feels earned.
  • It is shoulder season. Many resorts are calmer between Labor Day and the holidays, so it is easier to get the times you want.
  • It sets you up for winter. A few days of rest before the holiday rush is the best gift you can give yourself.

1. Dior Spa at Splendido, Portofino

If you are going to cross an ocean for a spa, this is the one. The Dior Spa at Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, opened in June 2025 as Dior’s first permanent spa in Italy, according to LVMH. It sits above Portofino with views of the Ligurian coast, and there are treatments outdoors in the Jardin des Rêves Dior.

The menu includes the signature SplendiDior ritual, Dior Oxygen Therapy and Dior Powered by HydraFacial, plus massages and body treatments, as listed on Belmond’s spa page. Splendido is seasonal, so if you are thinking about late October, check the hotel’s closing date before you plan around it. For more on the area, see my shoulder-season Riviera guide.

2. Canyon Ranch Lenox, The Berkshires

Closer to home, Canyon Ranch Lenox is the classic New England spa escape, and it is where I spent a summer escape in the Berkshires.

It is set around the historic Bellefontaine mansion, and stays are all-inclusive, with meals, spa amenities and more than 35 daily activities. The Michelin Guide has named it New England’s top spa resort, according to Canyon Ranch. In fall, the Berkshires are at their best, and this year the resort is hosting a Berkshire Fall Foliage Discovery Week from October 19 to 25, with yoga, guided hikes, spa treatments and harvest hayrides. If you cannot make it this week, keep it in mind for next fall.

3. Miraval Berkshires, Lenox

Also in Lenox, Miraval Berkshires is the more contemplative option. It centers on the Wyndhurst Mansion and the Life in Balance Spa, and the all-inclusive rate covers meals, activities and spa access. It is for guests 18 and older, so it is a quiet adult escape. If I were planning a girls’ trip to the Berkshires this fall, I would compare Canyon Ranch and Miraval side by side, since they are just a few minutes apart.

4. Mayflower Inn & Spa, Connecticut

The Litchfield Hills are one of the prettiest drives in New England in October, and Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut, is the place to stay. Its spa offers bodywork, health coaching and facials by Biologique Recherche, the French skincare line many facial devotees love. I wrote about it as a summer escape, but I think it may be even better with the leaves turning outside.

5. Canyon Ranch Woodside, California

For a West Coast reset, Canyon Ranch Woodside sits among the redwoods south of San Francisco. I have already made the case for why the fall wellness retreat you need is at Canyon Ranch Woodside, and it remains one of my favorite ideas for a few days of hiking and quiet.

6. The 1932 Hotel & Spa, Cap d’Antibes

On the French Riviera, The 1932 Hotel & Spa Cap d’Antibes puts the spa right in its name. Pair it with a few days in Cannes or Antibes for a fall trip that balances sea air and rest.

How to Plan Fall Spa Getaways

  • Book treatments when you book the room. The best times, especially weekend mornings, go first.
  • Arrive early. Give yourself time in the relaxation areas before your appointment. It is part of the experience.
  • Choose one signature treatment. It is better to do one great ritual than three rushed services.
  • Ask about packages. Many resorts bundle spa credits or treatments into the rate in the shoulder season.
  • Leave space in the schedule. A spa trip with a packed itinerary defeats the purpose.
  • Think about the season. In fall, I would choose warming treatments: a long massage, a body wrap or a facial focused on hydration after the summer sun.
