Mont-Tremblant's pedestrian village in winter, the heart of any Mont-Tremblant ski trip

Ski Season Starts Now: Planning a Mont-Tremblant Ski Trip

It is still fall in Boston, but this is exactly the moment to plan a ski trip. The best rooms for the holidays and February vacation week go first, and the early planners get the good ones. If you want a winter escape that feels like a trip abroad without a long flight, a Mont-Tremblant ski trip is one of my favorite ideas. The village has cobblestone streets, colorful rooftops and a European feel, and it is close enough to Boston for a long weekend.

I have already shared my summer itinerary for Tremblant from Boston. Here is how I would plan the winter version.

1. When the 2026–27 Season Opens

Tremblant has set its official ski season opening day for Thursday, November 26, 2026, with a celebration at the base of the Express Gondola. Early-season terrain depends on snow and weather, so if you want the full mountain open, I would aim for mid-December through March.

A few dates to keep in mind:

  • Holiday weeks (Christmas to New Year’s) are the busiest and most expensive.
  • February vacation week in New England fills quickly with Boston families.
  • January and March are often the sweet spots for value and quieter slopes.

Tremblant is on the Ikon Pass, so check your pass details before buying lift tickets.

2. Getting There from Boston

You have two good options for a Mont-Tremblant ski trip:

  • Fly to Montréal. Air Canada flies nonstop from Boston Logan to Montréal-Trudeau in about an hour and a half. From there, Tremblant is about 90 minutes by road, and the resort lists both a shuttle and private transfers from the airport.
  • Drive. The resort puts Boston at about seven hours by car. It is a long day, but it gives you flexibility, and it is easy to break up the drive with a night in Montréal.

Either way, bring your passport. You will be crossing into Canada.

3. Where to Stay

Le Westin Tremblant

In my reel on Tremblant, this is where I said to stay: right in the pedestrian village, surrounded by the cobblestone streets. You are steps from the lifts, shops and restaurants, which is exactly what you want in winter when you would rather walk than drive. Rooms have fireplaces, and there is a heated outdoor pool and an Amerispa for after a day on the mountain.

Fairmont Tremblant

For true ski-in, ski-out convenience, the Fairmont sits at the base of the mountain. It has 312 rooms and suites, the Moment Spa and outdoor pools, and the Fairmont Gold floor adds a private lounge with breakfast and a dedicated concierge. I would book Gold for a holiday trip, when a quiet lounge feels like a luxury.

Hôtel Quintessence

If you want something more intimate and romantic, Hôtel Quintessence has 30 suites on the shore of Lac Tremblant, at the foot of the mountain. Each suite has a wood-burning fireplace, and the hotel even has a fireplace concierge. Its restaurant, La Quintessence & Winebar, focuses on Laurentian ingredients with a French touch. For me, this is the pick for a couples’ getaway.

4. On the Mountain

Tremblant has a 2,116-foot vertical drop and more than 100 trails spread across several faces, so there is something for every level. My tips:

  • Get up early. The resort offers a First Tracks option for getting on the mountain before the crowds.
  • Book lessons ahead for holiday weeks, when ski school fills.
  • Dress for real cold. Quebec in January can be much colder than New England, so layer well and bring a good neck gaiter and hand warmers.

5. Après-Ski in the Village

Tremblant takes après seriously. SKI Magazine readers voted it the best après-ski resort in Eastern North America, and the classic stop is Le P’tit Caribou, a lively chalet-style bar where skiers show up in their boots. For something calmer, a glass of wine by the fire at your hotel is never a bad idea.

If I were planning a rest day, I would book time at Scandinave Spa Mont-Tremblant, a Nordic spa set in the woods, for the hot-and-cold cycle that feels so good after a few days of skiing.

6. Tremblant vs. Other Ski Trips

If you are deciding between destinations, my post on why Stowe is having a snow moment and why Spruce Peak is the place to stay is a good comparison for a shorter drive from Boston. For a bigger Western trip, see my guide to a first-time trip to Aspen at The Gant.

What makes a Mont-Tremblant ski trip different is the feeling. The village, the French spoken around you, the food and the lights at night make it feel far more international than its distance from Boston would suggest.

Your Mont-Tremblant Ski Trip Booking Checklist

  • Book your hotel now for holidays and February vacation week.
  • Confirm your pass covers Tremblant, or buy lift tickets in advance.
  • Choose flights or drive, and reserve airport transfers early.
  • Reserve dinners and spa time for weekends and holidays.
  • Check passports for everyone in your group.

Plan it now, and by the time the first snow falls, all you will need to do is pack.
