A Culinary Delight: My Unforgettable Evening at XOXO Sushi Bar

Anticipation filled the air as I eagerly awaited the grand opening of XOXO Sushi Bar in Chestnut Hill. Promising an exclusive blend of modern American-Japanese cuisine, this contemporary restaurant and bar, recently opened their doors on March 8th, aimed to redefine dining in the area. Helmed by a standout chef and boasting an exquisite ambiance, XOXO Sushi Bar was poised to deliver an unparalleled culinary journey.

As I stepped into the sleek and modern venue, I was immediately struck by the luxurious and intricate design elements that surrounded me. Anchored by a 16-seat bar, the space exudes sophistication with its vaulted ceiling, custom millwork, and pebble stone mosaic walls. The curated artwork and plush seating bathed in warm lighting added to the inviting atmosphere, creating the perfect setting for an unforgettable dining experience.

Executive Chef Kegan Stritchko, renowned for his tenure at Uni and Fat Baby Sushi, had crafted a menu that promised to tantalize the senses. Drawing from over a decade of experience in the fine dining industry, Chef Stritchko showcased his mastery with inventive creations that married unique flavors and textures with visually stunning presentations. From handrolls to izakaya-style plates, each dish was a work of art designed to surprise and delight.

While every dish was exceptional, my favorite part of the evening was indulging in the Lychee Martini and the hand rolls of sushi. The Lychee Martini, with its delicate balance of sweetness and tartness, was the perfect accompaniment to the bold flavors of the sushi. And the hand rolls, filled with fresh, expertly prepared ingredients, were a testament to Chef Stritchko’s skill and creativity.

Highlights from Chef Stritchko’s menu included the Ora King salmon sashimi, adorned with a Thai herb puree and fermented gooseberry salsa, and the indulgent A5 wagyu tartare embellished with caviar, black truffle, and black garlic. For those seeking an omakase experience, Chef Stritchko offered two “chef’s choice” options, featuring in-house dry-aged fish and a curated selection of seasonal sea treasures.

Complementing Chef Stritchko’s culinary creations was General Manager Ashif Nirola’s carefully curated beverage program. From an extensive collection of sakes and Japanese whiskies to whimsically crafted cocktails, the drink offerings at XOXO Sushi Bar catered to every palate.

Located in Brookline’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood, just a block from The Street at Chestnut Hill, XOXO Sushi Bar promised to be a culinary oasis for locals and visitors alike. With dinner service available nightly from 5-10pm and a late-night menu offering handrolls and hot bites until 11pm Sunday through Tuesday and midnight Wednesday to Saturday, XOXO Sushi Bar was set to become a go-to destination for discerning diners.

As I savored each exquisite bite and sip, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such culinary excellence. XOXO Sushi Bar had exceeded my expectations in every way, leaving me with memories that would linger long after the last plate was cleared. For anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Chestnut Hill, XOXO Sushi Bar is not to be missed.
