Phuket first became a tourist hub in the 1970s, with backpackers camping out on Patong Beach. However, in the decades since, the island has become a luxury destination. There are many sides to Phuket, there is still a thriving party scene in Patong, but on the Northern side of the island visitors can unplug, relax in a private villa and enjoy the amazing sunsets.
Where to Stay on Phuket
The Trisara Resort on the Northwestern side of Phuket has 39 pool suites & villas and an additional 15 private homes, some of which are available as rentals. As soon as you arrive at Trisara, take a deep breath and relax. The resort is quiet, lush and sophisticated.
It is a place you will want to wake up early to enjoy the sunrise and stay up late listening to the waves crashing.
Even the smaller suites are well appointed with large private pools, living spaces and bedrooms. Each suite or villa has a large balcony to enjoy the view of the Pacific and take in the sunrises and sunsets.
What to Eat at the Trisara Resort
At Trisara there are three on property restaurants: Pru, Seafood and the Deck. Each has a very unique offering. Start with a luxurious breakfast. Have your choice of your dim sum, Thai inspired egg dishes and perfect pastries. If you want to enjoy breakfast in the comfort of air conditioning, take breakfast inside, but if you want to start the day in the balmy air, have it on the Deck in the morning sunshine.
Then for lunch come to back the Deck for some western and Asian favorites. Pair an Asian salad with a perfect truffle pizza.
And finally you are in for a treat when it comes to dinner. Dinner is served at all three restaurants and you should make time to try all three. Seafood offers traditional home-style Southern Thai food, think spicy curries, local seafood and perfectly steamed rice.
Pru on the other hand is a Michelin-starred restaurant. The only restaurant on the island to have been awarded a Michelin star, Pru should be on every foodie’s list. The tasting menus showcase how the fresh ingredients should be celebrated. The atmosphere is as sophisticated as any other top restaurant we have been to and so is the service. A dinner at Pru is a real treat.
What to Do on Phuket
Phuket is a great home base for some island hopping. The famous James Bond Island and Phi Phi Islands are only a short speedboat ride from Phuket. Whether you charter a boat or join a group tour, be sure to save a day or two to visit the smaller islands. Even though they are all hotspots nowadays there are still unspoiled beaches and crystal clear waters to enjoy. The snorkeling is some of the best we have ever seen, with so many tropical fish and coral to check out.
And then after a day of being out in the tropical sun you will be glad you have the tranquil Trisara Resort to come home to. So just sit back on your balcony and enjoy the sunset.
