Maine is known as Vacationland and that does not only apply in the summer time. Maine may be even more magical in the Fall. The trees are full of color, the air is crisp and there are pumpkin patches to visit. Here is a quick guide to a weekend in Kennebunkport this fall!
Where to Stay in Kennebunkport
We recently tried “glamping” at Sandy Pines Campground. Located just 5 minutes down the road from the heart of Kennebunkport, Sandy Pines offers a few different experiences: Camp Cottages, Hideaway Huts and Glamp Tents. All three options allow you and your friends to get out in nature, while still being able to enjoy many of the comforts of home. We opted for a Camp Cottage.
Our cottage was beautifully decorated with rustic finishes, but there was heat and electricity—a turnkey way to unwind on a weekend outside of the city.
We had our own firepit and deck to relax on as well. Sandy Pines has plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, things like a badminton net, outdoor pool and kids’ area are all within walking distance from the campsites.
What to Do in Kennebunkport
In addition to finding some time to relax by the fire at Sandy Pines, we also recommend taking some time to explore Kennebunkport, which is a classic New England coastal town. Park on Spring Street and spend an afternoon strolling around and checking out the cute shops along the way.
And when you start to feel famished, hop in the line at The Clam Shack and pick up a box of fried clams and a lobster roll!
For dessert you have to head to Rococo Ice Cream, which is a delightful ice cream shop serving up some unexpected and delicious flavors such as: Earl Grey, Rose Hip Jam & Pistachio; Guava & Maria Cookies; and Goat Cheese & Blackberry Chambord.
Afterwards, on your way back to Sandy Pines, stop off at the Seacoast Trolley Museum to ride some historic trolleys from all over the world and to check out their pumpkin patch! This is also a great opportunity to take some cute fall family photos.
Glamping Tips
If you’re staying at Sandy Pines, we highly recommend putting an order in for dinner when you arrive. This way when you come back from a day of exploring Kennebunkport, you’ll have dinner delivered to your door. When we visited we enjoyed some lobster rolls and clam chowder by the fire—the perfect New England evening!
And the general store on site offers all the campsite necessities that you may want: firewood, snacks, drinks and more. They also serve up some delicious breakfast sandwiches in the morning!
Last but not least, Glamping is great time to unplug and just relax in the great outdoors. But make sure you have all the right gear with you, so you can be comfortable on your weekend away! Check out the brand new Fjallraven store in Boston’s Seaport to pick up all the cozy flannels and jackets that you need to make you a glamping pro!
