Nantucket is one of the most beautiful summertime destinations in the United States. This chic New England enclave is popular year after year for its amazing beaches, fine dining, and stylish boutiques. But since the advent of Instagram, it has also become one of the hotspots for the social media savvy. There are countless picturesque backdrops to be found and we recently chatted with our favorite Nantucket photographer about her top Nantucket photography locations.
Emily Elisabeth is a lifestyle and wedding photographer based on Nantucket and she was kind enough to share all the places that she loves shoot at year after year, as well as some insider tips! Let’s see what she had to say!
Nantucket Photography Musts: ‘Sconset
“I love shooting in ‘Sconset for obvious reasons 🙂 The flowers, the bridge, bluff walk – I love how much variety is out there.”
Siasconset, or “Sconset” as the locals call it, is located on the East of the island and has so many beautiful nooks and crannies it is certainly an Instagram must. And if you are visiting in the summer, you will get to enjoy the cute cottages and their hydrangeas, but is just as beautiful in the offseason as well!
Nantucket Island Beaches: Madaket
“I also love Madaket, especially the harbor beach there – there are always colorful kayaks lining the beach and the sunsets out there are insane!”
Heading to the opposite side of the island, Madaket is another amazing oceanside location to visit and snap a few photos! As Emily mentions, the harbor is a must for any photographer!
Nantucket Photography Spots: Surfside
“And for a more unique spot, I love this area by Surfside beach, right across from the youth hostel. It’s like a web of sandy paths through the dunes that lead down to the beach, it’s gorgeous!”
And if you are looking to go a little more off the beaten path, head to Surfside as Emily suggests. The sandy paths make for a dreamy landscape. If you post from here, you will surely get lots of DMs asking where the spot is! It is just that classic New England summertime look!
Some Other Nantucket Photo Recommendations
“Some of my other go-to spots are: Steps Beach, Old North Wharf, Brant Point Lighthouse, Ray’s Court, and Upper Main St.”
Nantucket is filed with so many amazing photo spots year-round, but the classic time to visit is in late June/early July when the hydrangeas are in full bloom. On our recent trip earlier this summer we were so fortunate to have been able to enjoy the super bloom that they had this year. It was just such a treat! We spotted some fabulous hydrangeas in both Nantucket Town and ‘Sconset.
Big thank you to Emily for sharing her tips with us and for taking these cute couples shots!
