Summer is all about picnics, days at the beach and spur of the moment ice cream cones—which is why we are sharing our favorite summer food and wine pairings featuring 90+ Cellars! We love traveling around New England in the summertime and we love pairing our favorite summer foods with a glass of 90+ Cellars. These are our go-to pairings when we are on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod or really anywhere else this time of year.
90+ Cellars: Rosé & Lobster Rolls
There is a reason rosé is a summer favorite—dry and crisp rosé is a refreshing choice for a summer day or night. Because it has the characteristics of both a white wine, and the fruitiness and substance of a light red, it is a versatile pairing for lots of summertime dishes. When it comes to the New England classic—the lobster roll, specifically the Maine variety—rosé is our go to wine pairing. The fruitiness of 90+ Cellars Rosé matches the sweetness of the lobster, but the acidity cuts through the butter on the bun and the mayonnaise in the roll.
I love eating lobster rolls because they are something that truly brings me back to my childhood in New England, when its lobster roll time you know that summer is officially here! And now as an adult pairing this New England classic with a crisp rosé is such a treat!
90+ Cellars: Sancerre & Fish Sandwiches
In Massachusetts, the fish sandwich has long been a summertime staple as well and Sancerre is traditionally paired with seafood. 90+ Cellars’s Sancerre has the perfume of white flowers with hints of citrus and flint and has a grapefruit-laced finish. Its balanced and crisp flavor cuts through the breaded texture of the fish sandwich but doesn’t overpower the delicate cod or haddock.
I also love a Sancerre with a goat cheese & strawberry salad or some oysters on the half shell. This is something that we fell in love with while in Europe and whenever we can experience those flavors here in the US it just puts a smile on our faces.
90+ Cellars: Bubbly & Fries
Finally, what’s better than some fries on the beach? Fries & prosecco! Sparkling wine is the perfect pairing for French fries. The saltiness and crunchiness of French fries are the perfect complement to prosecco’s bubbles and acidity. So, if you are looking to amp up your next picnic or cookout, skip the beer and go for something else fizzy. The 90+ Cellars Prosecco is a chic choice for any summer get together or party!
Treat yourself to something special because every day should be a celebration—especially after the year that we have all had. And then after you have the fries and the bubbly go get an ice cream cone, because that’s what summertime is all about!
