Floral porcelain teacup, teapot and pastries with roses, a holiday afternoon tea in Boston

The Best Holiday Afternoon Teas in Boston for 2026

For a holiday afternoon tea in Boston this year, start with Four Seasons One Dalton, which serves a themed festive tea through December. Then book The Newbury’s Make Way for Ducklings tea by the fireplace in The Street Bar, or Harbor Tea on the waterfront. Below is what each hotel has confirmed for the 2026 season. For the autumn versions of many of these, see my guide to the best hotel afternoon teas, from Boston to London.

A note before you plan: several hotels post their December menus late, so I have only listed what has been published. Book early; the December weekends go first.

Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street: the festive tea

This is the one confirmed holiday tea in Back Bay. Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street says Trifecta hosts a special themed festive afternoon tea throughout December. Its Christmas page describes festive pastries, seasonal teas and curated treats. Afternoon tea here is served on Saturdays and Sundays, with seatings at 12:45pm and 2:30pm. The usual service includes tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones and savory bites with J’enwey Tea blends, and there is a children’s tea for ages 12 and under.

The hotel lists its 2026 holiday events as still to be confirmed, so check the afternoon tea page for the December menu and price, or call 617-377-4888. Reservations are required. The hotel’s Christmas page also promises a chocolate bar and a winter cocktail list at Trifecta, which is a good excuse to stay on after tea.

The Newbury Boston: tea by the fire

For pure atmosphere in December, I would choose The Newbury Boston. Afternoon tea is served in The Street Bar, the wood-paneled room with fireplaces and views over Newbury Street toward the Public Garden. The menu is curated by Major Food Group. The signature is the Make Way for Ducklings tea service, presented on china made for the hotel with the blessing of author Robert McCloskey, which is about as Boston as tea gets.

The hotel’s current tea menu prices it at $120, or $145 with a glass of Taittinger Champagne, plus an 18% service charge. It includes tea sandwiches such as cured salmon with caviar and truffle egg on brioche. Among the blends is a Holiday Spiced Chai. Reserve through the hotel’s dining page. I have long loved this hotel; see my cozy staycation at The Newbury.

Boston Harbor Hotel: Harbor Tea on the water

Boston Harbor Hotel serves Harbor Tea Thursday to Sunday, 2:30 to 4:30pm, created with the French tea house Palais des Thés. It is not a holiday-specific menu, but the harbor in December, with the lights coming on across the water at 4pm, does the decorating for you. Book on the hotel’s Harbor Tea page.

The hotel’s holiday page lists Christmas Day brunch and Christmas at Rowes Wharf Sea Grille on December 25, if you want to come back. I hosted my Historic Maps of Boston book launch here in October, and the waterfront rooms really are this good.

Raffles Boston: tea at Amar

At Raffles Boston, afternoon tea is served at Amar, Thursday through Sunday from 2 to 4:30pm. Raffles has not announced a holiday-specific tea, but it is a polished alternative in Back Bay if the Four Seasons is full.

Fairmont Copley Plaza: tea in your room

For a lazy December weekend, Fairmont Copley Plaza has a Tea for Two package: tea-to-go from the Courtyard Tea Room, with MEM Tea, delivered to your room. The hotel lists it as available through December 31, 2026, booked with your stay. Fairmont is also where Santa has his post-tree-lighting cookie party; see my Christmas in New England 2026 calendar for the Copley Square date.

One more: the Boston Public Library

The Courtyard Tea Room inside the library’s McKim Building is the most quintessentially Boston setting of all. I wrote about it in my guide to the best hotel afternoon teas, from Boston to London and in my literary Boston guide. Check the tea room’s own listings for December hours and any holiday menu before you go.

Your holiday tea planner

  • Festive themed tea, all of December: Four Seasons One Dalton, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:45pm and 2:30pm
  • Fireside tea, $120: The Newbury Boston, The Street Bar

Make an afternoon of it. Tea pairs well with the tree lightings and the Boston Ballet Nutcracker, which runs November 27 to December 31. My guide to dressing for the ballet covers the outfit.
