Every New England Hotel With a 2026 MICHELIN Key

New England has 35 hotels with a MICHELIN Key on the MICHELIN Guide’s current listings, and seven of them hold two Keys. None in the region has three. Massachusetts leads with 17, Boston alone has seven, and Maine is close behind. Here is every one, state by state, with its Key count as shown on the guide.

A Key is Michelin’s hotel equivalent of a star: one Key for “a very special stay”, two for “an exceptional stay” and three for “an extraordinary stay”. My team and I have stayed at many of these, and I wrote about them in our 2024 roundup of the Key hotels we have stayed at. Below I note where we have been.

The Two-Key hotels

All three Boston two-Key hotels are personal favorites. In 2024 I called The Newbury my favorite boutique hotel around, and I still mean it; see my cozy Newbury staycation. Twin Farms is the outlier in this group, an all-inclusive Vermont retreat with just 28 rooms.

Notable names without a Key

Several New England favorites appear in the guide as selected hotels but show no Key on their current listings, including Mandarin Oriental Boston, Castle Hill Inn in Newport, Chatham Bars Inn and The White Elephant on Nantucket. Mandarin Oriental and Castle Hill both held Keys when we wrote our 2024 roundup of the Key hotels we have stayed at. A guide listing is still a recommendation, and I would happily book any of them. My weekend at Chatham Bars Inn is proof.

  • Massachusetts: 17 (5 with two Keys)
  • Maine: 9
  • Rhode Island: 3 (1 with two Keys)
  • Vermont: 3 (1 with two Keys)
  • Connecticut: 2
  • New Hampshire: 1
