A weekend out with the girls is the time to pamper, polish and preen. And Boston is the perfect place to do just that! Reward yourself and your friends with a weekend that is truly 5 star with the best food, the tastiest drinks, the greatest spa, the chicest hotel, and oh maybe even a little art. Read our guide the ultimate girls trip to Boston.
When to Go to Boston
Boston is guaranteed to be gorgeous May through September. As for the rest of the year, you can still have a wonderful time, but you just have to be sure to pack appropriately. Sometimes you can have a 60-degree sunny March day or a blizzard on April 1st, check the weather before you go and you should be fine! Even if it is a little chilly, spring can be a fantastic time to visit since popular sites will be less crowded. Between cafe hopping, strolling through museums and shopping on Newbury Street, a girls trip to Boston is fun anytime of year!
But First Coffee
Every girls trip has to include a little jaunt at a cute café; I mean where else are you going to get that perfect coffee-focused Insta? I recommend Caffé Nero near the Ritz in Downtown Crossing. Chic interior, delicious pastries and the baristas knock the classics (Cappuccino, Latte, Americano) out of the park.
Spa Time
Start off the weekend right with an invigorating spa treatment. Awarded “Boston’s Best Massage” by Improper Bostonian last year, Bella Sante Day Spa on Newbury Street is definitely my go to. With a gorgeous relaxation area you will feel all that stress from the week melt off as soon as you step off the elevator.
And if you’re like me and have a few aches and pains left over from ski season, definitely try the 50-minute “spa massage”. And afterwards you are encouraged to enjoy a nice steam in the sauna, and wrap up the experience with a shower in their lovely ladies lounge.
High-end accommodations, skilled masseuses, and a beautiful Newbury Street location, what more could you ask for?
Shopping in Boston
After your massage, you’re already on Newbury Street, so of course you’re going shopping. Newbury Street is Boston’s premier shopping locale, with Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and many other world class international and local brands; you will definitely find a pair of shoes to go with your outfit for tonight—I promise!
Newbury Street is the place for fashionistas visiting Boston.
Pro tip: If you get a major chocolate craving while you are out and about on Newbury, stop by L.A. Burdick’s and grab some hot chocolate and a some snacks for later. #YUM
Visit Some Museums
All right, we got the first two big activities checked off, massages and shopping. Now lets see what Boston has to offer us for culture. The ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) is a must for all you stylish ladies (and gentlemen) out there. Located in Boston’s Seaport, the ICA is so much more than a museum. Not only does it constantly have the coolest contemporary art exhibits in town, but it is also a gorgeously modern building right on Boston’s waterfront that is a great place to stroll by on a sunny afternoon.
Night Out During a Girls Trip to Boston
Now if you are visiting from NYC of LA, you might laugh at the fact that bars close at 2am in Boston. But believe me you can still have a fun night out in Beantown, one that will also allow you to wake up for that Soul Cycle class at 9am the next morning (how is that a bad thing btw?). If you’re like me and want to hit a few trendy spots in town, where the atmosphere is more stiletto than Sam Adams, you should head straight to the W Hotel. You have to check out the Gallery’s new happy hour menu, called “5 SIX 7”.
With delicious bites and amazing craft cocktails, your night will get off to a great start! This special menu is only available from 5-7pm weeknights, so it’s perfect for drinks after work or to get your weekend going on Friday with the girls (Oh and an added bonus is that all items cost either $5, $6 or $7)! I love everything, but you HAVE to try the Beef Abondigas, they were my instant favorite!
And after you have eased into the night with a few Grapefruit Gimlets and maybe a Cucumber Martini or two, I recommend moving the party out into the W Lounge.
Most nights after 9pm, there is a live DJ spinning the latest EDM and House tracks, amping up the vibe. The W Lounge has an intimate “urban garden” feel, with stylish clientele making appearances every night.
Where to Stay for a Girls Trip to Boston
Boston is a compact city, but there are many lodging options. However, for the chic, stylish traveler there is really only one—The W Boston. Located in the trendy Theatre District, the W is a hot spot for both locals and visitors. And as I have already mentioned the W is a destination all within itself, with 2 restaurants right in its lobby it has everything you need to get your weekend going. Also, it should be mentioned that there is even a club in the basement called Tunnel that is also a must for any night out! With luxury accommodations, a central location and amazing amenities, you should really make the W your home the next time you are in Boston. (Rates typically $300+).
